Colored Pencil Concept Pieces (15)
I love playing around with photos, colored pencils, and odd ideas. That's the only explanation I got for these. Umm, I had a blast doing them. That too. -
Puzzle Society Illustrations (16)
During most of 2021 I enjoyed working on a series of illustrations for Andrews McMeel Universal's Puzzle Society website reboot. In all I did 30 plus illustrations, one for each chapter of their "History of the Puzzle Society". The consistent thread was that the Puzzle Society has been around for thousands of years, quietly exerting their influence in the shadows to promote puzzling wherever they could in the world. An immensely fun job, working with truly great people. Here are a few of the pieces I did for them. Check out the site while you're at it, and maybe join and become a Senior Quizzler! https://www.puzzlesociety.com -
Sequential Art (21)
Over the years I've had the opportunity to help define the visual direction of various motion picture-type projects by creating storyboards and other sequential art. Working to help define composition, screen direction and camera angles is right up my alley, being a lifelong cinephile. That's a real word too - I looked it up and everything. -
SKETCHBOOK MADNESS! (72)
Also known as Chronic Moleskine Syndrome. A randomly curated selection of sketches from various sketchbooks over the years. I have somehow managed to evade the authorities on the lookout for those who take advantage of innocent, unsuspecting pencils. Not for the faint of heart. -
Procreate Work (28)
As if there weren't more than enough shiny things to distract me and devour the hours in a day already, I'm now mildly addicted to Procreate. It pains me to think of all the top notch television viewing I've missed because of Procreate. Here's a sampling of the self-indulgent work I've done in that app. Thanks a lot iPad Pro and Apple Pencil! -
BAD PRESIDENTS! BOOK (20)
Here is a good deal of content from the book I wrote and illustrated, entitled Bad Presidents! In addition to an irreverent, yet completely respectful portrait of each of the less-than-stellar American Presidents, there are historical anecdotes galore, as well as a lot of questionable historical ephemera. -
ART DIRECTED! (35)
As an Art Director for animated films and various types of games, I get to work with very talented people who do incredibly polished work from designs I conjure up. Even though I rarely ever do the finished work I get the lion's share of the credit. Is this a great country or what? -
CONCEPT ART (38)
For films, for games, if there's a concept out there in need of an art, I will make a valiant attempt to art it! -
COLOR (18)
Thanks to the invention of color in the late 60's, I've had the opportunity to produce artwork to suggest palettes for various exciting projects over the years. Take a look and see what emotions they evoke. For me it's ennui, followed by hunger, followed by sleepiness. -
CHARACTERS (22)
I've been fortunate throughout my career to have been asked (sometimes forced) to make designs for characters. Characters for films, games, and secret fraternal organizations such as the Shriners and the Kiwanis Club. I will not work for the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Moose, though. I will not work for antler-wearers! -
GRAPHICS (32)
I've always been fascinated by Graphic Design. While enjoying the occasional opportunity to dabble in that art form, I am not a trained graphic designer, so none of these are sanctioned by the International League of Graphic Design Professionals. (That's a real organization, right? I only ask because I keep receiving "Cease and Desist" notices from them...) -
ILLUSTRATION (42)
A host of pictures I've made, either for actual paying clients or to satisfy my own insatiable need to attempt cleverness. -
LOCATION PAINTINGS (24)
A sampling of watercolors and oils, done on locations as exotic as The Hawaiian Island Territories and the Foreign Country of France!
